Working For Yourself Is Great For Your Hobby

The one thing that I have always loved about becoming my own boss, and making money online from home, is that I get to spend a lot more of my free time doing what I want to do. When I had a job I would spend any free time at work looking at internet sites.

Now that I work from home, for myself, I can do things that were just out of the question when I was working in the real world. Take today for example, I was struggling to focus on work so I got up and went to see the excellent Manga exhibition at a local art gallery.

Could I have done that if I was working 9to5 in an office for a big company?

The same goes for hobbies as well.

Say you like customising your car, if you work from home you could stop what you are doing and just go outside and install that new billet grills you have spent a nice fortune on. I’m not into cars. It doesn’t really matter what your hobby it, my point is working from home means you can indulge in it when you want to.

My hobby of watching stand-up comedy comes into play, I can take a break and put on a stand-up comedy DVD or even go to a local club to watch some live comedy. Although the latter tends to happen in the evening more.

Do you indulge in your hobbies when you want to thanks to working from home?

3 CPM Ad Networks That I Use

I received a couple of emails a couple of days ago both asking me if I could point them in the direction of some reliable CPM networks that would pay well. Again I thought that instead of jut replying to them I could turn this into a post and share with as many people as possible.

For those of you who are not clear on what CPM stands for, it means ‘cost per mile’ (cost per thousand). It basically means that they will pay you for every 1,000 unique visitors that you display their adverts to.

Now there are hundreds of CPM networks out there and I could easily just go out and grab a load and plonk them in this article and then publish it. But that is not the way I like to work. Besides what if one of them is a scam or dodgy? I lose what little credibility I may have built up with my readers.

What I decided to do was only include CPM networks that I have actually worked with and am happy to endorse. Obviously this has narrowed down the field a considerable bit but at least none of them will be scams or dodgy.

AdsDaq

Although I have been with AdsDaq for a while it was only about four months ago that finally I started to get to grips with them and use them regularly. They are quite picky about what sites they accept and once declined you can’t submit that site again. They seem to offer good impression rates although this is debatable depending on who you talk to.

Total earned: $4.01

Smowtion

Monetize your site!

They seem to look and act very professional compared to the other networks I’ve used (including Google). Their support is very hit and miss when replying, which can put people off. They are not very picky about which sites they accept but they do seem to only acknowledge one ad unit on a page.

Total earned: $2.28

Underdog

Underdog is one that I am still messing about with. They don’t seem to offer as many different ads as the other two but none of them have been dodgy in any way so I’m happy to stick with them for the foreseeable future.

I’ve give them almost 11,000 page views and have received under a Dollar so I’m hoping it is a case of me not getting it right, rather than them paying out very poor.

So there you have it. There may only be three but these are the three CPM networks that I use and I hope that if you join them you will earn a lot more than I have (I’m sure that won’t be difficult!).

If you are part of any CPM networks that do not display ads for dodgy sites then feel free to drop them in the comments section. Please don’t post referral links as I will just delete them. :)

Sunday Ramblings #3

I apologise for this being a couple of hours late, I’ve just got in from playing in my first competitive football match in months. I played in goal and only let in two goals, just in case you was wondering. :)

Updating comments

I have always encouraged people to comment on this blog. In order to entice you further I took the plunge over 2 years ago and turned this blog into a do-follow one. This meant you were rewarded with a back-link for leaving a comment.

Sadly this brings out the spammers in force. I have been forced to do something that I really did not want to do. I have put a requirement on the amount of comments you must drop in order for your links to be do-follow.

From now on you must leave two comments and then from there your links will become do-follow. This means if you are a spammer and only leave one comment (as most of them do) then it will be classed as no-follow until I find it and delete it.

To make it easier for you the total amount of comments you have left will appear next to your name when you leave a comment. You know, just in case you had trouble counting up to two. :P

Listening To The Feedback

On Wednesday I published a post asking the question How Can I Improve This Blog? I was met with some very good (and some rather horrible) replies, both via the comments section and by the contact form.

One that stuck out was from a person called Alex Whalley. He suggested that I sort out the Google Adsense ads because sometimes the units were showing flashing images that were not only horrible to look at but were slowing down the blog.

I thought this was a good idea and after doing the change I have noticed a slight increase in loading time on not just this blog but my personal blog as well. I will be looking to do this with the Adbrite ads in the next couple of days or so.
