You have possibly heard from numerous sources across the Internet that Yahoo and Microsoft officially agreed on a search deal that’ll alter the landscape of this field and significantly affect the duties of most seos. Here’s a list of seo tips on how to get ready for the Yahoo/Bing merge:
1)Continuously Concentrate upon Google
There has been lots of hype concerning Yahoo and Bing over the last few weeks, yet Google remains the king of all search engines. Bing and Yahoo account for around 28% of the searches.
2) Act upon Yahoo Searching Services – or Say Goodbye
With Bing replacing Yahoo’s searching algorithm, most of Yahoo’s services will be up within the air involving these:
- Link source, Yahoo Directory
- Link data, Yahoo Site Explorer
- Platform for searching apps, BOSS and Yahoo Search Monkey
- Pay into Yahoo organic listings, Yahoo Paid Inclusion
- Replaced by Bing Local?, Yahoo Maps
- Yahoo People Search, in case you want to find more about this, see this free people search article
Whether the services are up as Yahoo Search will be replaced by Bing will be yet to become determined. If you wish to take advantages of these features, it might be now or never.
3) Do Competitive Link Research Prior to it Being Too Late
One important Yahoo feature that is relied on by most SEOs and webmasters will be the Yahoo Site Explorer. This tool provides the ideal link information out of all search engines and is utilized for competitive intelligence.
If Yahoo discontinued this tool, the link building strategies might change dramatically. Though set up websites will gain from absence of public link information, newer websites will discover it difficult to copy competitor links. Absence of public link information encourages webmasters to purchase links due to them being easily done underneath the radar.
4) Optimize for Bing
As Bing starts to power Yahoo searches, Yahoo/Bing controls around 25% to 30% of searches. This represents huge quantities of traffic you mustn’t take lightly. The Bing algorithm is going to alter as Yahoo technology will be incorporated, yet you could now still optimize for Bing by following these tips:
- Get exact match domains as probable. Bing and Google provide bonuses to websites that have domains which match exactly search query.
- Sign up with Bing Webmaster Tools. This tool provides data and insights on how Bing looks at your website, helping you to optimize accordingly.
- Optimize digital assets. Search results within Bing will be rich and integrate more maps, videos and images than Google. For more visibility, try to get yours listed.
- Be on the lookout for loopholes to take advantage of. As Bing gains within search market share, you could predict more spam within the results.
5) Build SEO for Future
With only two major searching engines within this game, it will be more difficult for newer websites to increase within rankings and set themselves up without a huge ad budget. Barriers to entry within the Internet scene will be becoming larger each year and Search Engine Optimization will be getting more difficult for newer websites. So, what’re you waiting for?
What do you think?

i search a lot on the internet to gain more information about seo and linkbuilding. and there are a lot of movies also on seo.
Is that true? I know there is one on social networking (Facebook) bvut had no idea there were any about SEO. or are you just saying ‘movie’ when you actually mean ‘Youtube vid’?
Thanks for the post I did not know about all these changes that will happen and might happen now that Bing is taking over yahoo. As far as vids go when do you think yahoo video will allow you to again upload more vids to your yahoo video site? As of now you cant upload new vids and they say they will be doing some changes.

I don’t use to promote my websites to Yahoo or Bing. For me only google is now important.
Oh I so disagree. While Google is still the king it can not hurt to have your site/blog show up in Bing, Yahoo or even the tiny search engines.
Normally I don’t pay much attention in Bing, I only do SEO work for Yahoo and specially Google. Anyways, thanks for sharing this. Will check on it later
Bing may be the third rated search engine but I think they are on the rise and should be included when doing SEO.
Well, I’m a Google boy. And I stick to strategies which helps me increase my PR’s in Google. I don’t if I’m right but what I’m thinking right now is I have to stick to what’s BIG!
Of course I’m going to continue to work on doing well in Google but I think Darenet was trying to say that we should not discard other search engines.
Of course that’s right, I apologize for my slow comprehension.
You know what, yesterday I kept looking for options where to change my avatar.. and I just couldn’t find it..
At the moment your avatar is automatically generated by Wordpress, it is a feature designed to place default avatars when people do not have one.
To get your own avatar you should sign up with Gravatar and then in future your own avatar will appear instead.
(as long as you use the same email address to sign up and comment on blogs with)
I see, I think I’ve already had one.. I signed up before about couple of months ago but it didn’t seem to work. I just it out again and found out I accidentally chose the image type as Rated X. Just changed it to Rated G, maybe now it will show up..
It certainly does show up now, and look cool.
totally agree with your post but you should concentrate on other search engines like yahoo or bing because now days people are concentrating on other search engines are well plus social networking should also be targeted by the way nice post shared
This is very true. Bing & Yahoo might not benefit you as much as Google bu they are will worth using.
Google is no doubt very beneficial if you rank on google top results but you can never deny the importance of bing and yahoo as according to the stats there is a large number of internet users who even dont like to use google. The best thing to rank your keywords in google is to submit your articles in very good article directories and get back link to your site
I’ve actually found that the directories I have submitted my blogs to don’t stay around much longer after they have accepted my submissions. :-/
im still skeptical about Bing though..so far it has brought traffic to my site but not as much as google does
I don’t think it will bring as much as Google but it will bring enough in to warrant you putting in the effort with it.
I would say it depends on which search engine do you primarily get maximum traffic from. I mostly get traffic from Google and some percentage from Yahoo, hence I won’t bother about Bing too much. If you concentrate on Google itself, it will be more than enough for most of your sites.
The author was not saying you should abandon Google, far from it, he was saying that if you do some of the tips above you will see traffic from Bing. And who doesn’t want more traffic?
As of now its Google but slowly and surely Bing is gaining support from users..i believe in 3 years time i’d be a powerhouse
Bing have certainly come out punching recently haven’t they.
Whatever man still Google is the boss and people only acts to those that they use. If a person is using Google then definitely he’ll think doing SEO for Google is the best.
There is no question that Google is the king of search engines but if you only concentrate on Google then you are putting all your eggs into the wrong basket.
I completely side with D.J. Rony here. Though there are two more major players in Yahoo! and Bing. Google still constitutes a far greater number for searches, and if going by the math you choose to optimize your site for Google, you’re in for a larger audience.

I (and the author) wasn’t saying abandon Google. I don’t think taking Bing into consideration will take too much time.
At first all the bloggers and website owners were only working for getting good rankings in Google Search engine but now they are doing it for both and bing as it also widely used.
Bing is definitely worth working with. Especially as more toolbars seem to be using Bing as their default search engine instead of Google these days.
Bing is becoming popular now a days so we must consider ranking through it.
My thoughts exactly.
Yeah, Bing is slowly picking up on traffic, especially in North America. There are a lot many sites that are using Bing toolbar these days, so its surely worth the effort to promote your site on Bing.
And especially since Yahoo is now using Bing for a lot of things these days.
Bing it’s growing pretty fast, Google will continue to be the number 1 search engine in the coming years but Bing will take a huge part of google’s users and could even surpass it if there is further cooperation between Bing and Facebook

My thoughts exactly, and I welcome the competition.
I’m honestly at a loss for bing.. some of my pages rank great in Google and are nowhere to be found there. One of my keywords bounced around from 1 -5 on Bing?? I guess I’ll just keep messing with it and hope it goes somewhere!!
Yeah Bing is one search engine I haven’t figured out yet, maybe it will become more clear when they team up with Facebook.
Great tips Dean, More often than not people only focus on Google and forget that there are other ways to get some good traffic as well. Thanks for the advise.
