August 2010 Blog Income Report

by Dean Saliba on September 1, 2010 · Monthly Blog Income

The month of August meant more to me than just the sad anniversary of my beloved pet dog passing away three years ago, it also marked the first full month that I had decided to take this blogging lark from a part-time hobby and turn it into a full-time job.

I did not fully achieve this, I took pretty much every Friday, Saturday and Sunday off and I would often take days off during the week. Actually I did pretty much nothing for the last four or five days of August.

This is 100% my own fault though and something that I must address immediately if I am to make a serious go of this. I really don’t want to have to go back to an offline 9-5 job any time soon!

Page Impressions & Visitor Count

The unique visitor count for August stands at 1,064, which is a nice increase of 329 from the month of July.

The page impression count for August stands at 2,289, which is a massive increase of 711 from the month of July.

This means that each unique visitor looked at 2.15 pages.

I think this has to be the highest monthly traffic count I have ever received. I am not going to count back when I was using the StatTraq plugin because they would count admin clicks, robots and web spiders.

Money Money Money!

Adbrite = $0.45 (-$0.48)
AdsDaq = $0.62 (+$0.09)
Adsense = $1.88 (-$0.99)
Adtoll = $0.00 (+/-$0.00)
Infolinks = $0.43 (-$1.76)
Kontera = $0.00 (-$0.05)
Passive Income = $2.09 (new)
Private Ad = $60.00 (new)
Reviews = $246.36 (-$9.98)
Smowtion = $0.61 (+$0.21)
TLA = $6.66 (-$3.34)
UnderDog = $0.11 (-$0.07)

Total = $319.21 (+$25.27)

- Infolinks has had to be removed from this blog because it was accepted into the PayU2Blog network and they refuse to work with blogs who have in-line ads. I’ll make much more money with PayU2Blog.

- I have not added the money I earned from Twitter because more than a couple of them have locked publishers out of their accounts without explanations.

- I have added a new income stream this month, it is called passive income. I will write a proper post about this soon, but what it is in a nutshell is a way of earning money by submitting your articles to article sites and getting paid every time someone visits one.

Congrats :)

You earned $246 from reviews. What are reviews actually?

Dean Saliba (1278 comments) September 6, 2010 at 5:59 pm

Thank you. :)

A review/sponsored post is basically a post on your blog that a company pays you to write about their product, web sire or event. You include links in the post. I have listed a couple I have done as an example:

- Beefing Up Security Is A Good Thing

- Free Article Submission Service

I\’ll write a more detailed post about it soon. :)

If you fancy trying it then check out this link which offers a lot of networks to find companies willing to pay for reviews/sponsored posts.

Thanks! I’m checking out your list. I appreciate you sharing your stats freely. The fact that you can care less about SEO really give me the hope that I, too can one day do internet marketing on a full time basis.

Glad to be of service. :) I’ve been displaying my stats publicly since 2007 and unlike ‘bigger’ bloggers I do not intend to hide them if they start to fall.

So you’re going full-time, ey? Good luck with that. Really hope it works out for you ‘cos I COMPLETELY understand the distaste for 9-5′s.

You haven’t done too badly with your earnings considering the days you took off.

You’ve probably heard of CloudCrowd.com. You might wanna give it a try.

Anyway, good luck this month.

Take care…

Dean Saliba (1278 comments) September 6, 2010 at 6:07 pm

Thank you Ebele, I am certainly going to need it!

The major problem is my lack of motivation, it was alright before when this was just a \’paying hobby\’ but it could be a HUGE problem now.

It is currently six days into September and I\’ve only written one post on this blog and three on my personal blog.

Maybe I need to employ someone to kick me up the bum every now and again! :P

It is great when you have monthly income from my blog. Good job, keep it up

Dean Saliba (1278 comments) September 6, 2010 at 6:09 pm

Writing this monthly post is not only my favourite thing to do (I get to show off) but it is also the most painful because I have to visit so many control panels to count up how much I\’ve earnt in the past month. :)

$500? That is being VERY optimistic. :P

I\’ll be happy to beat my previous total of $319.21.

I hope your blog is continuing to steamroller along at a fantastic pace. :)

Congrats man. But your income from the sources other than review is very less. Can you tell me why the Adsense income is so low.

Wish you a great luck next month.

Dean Saliba (1278 comments) September 7, 2010 at 3:43 pm

I have never really found success with PPC ad networks such as Adbrite, Adsense, Adtoll, Infolinks, Kontera, etc. I\’ve been trying for years and have just sort of accepted that people don\’t want to click on the links on this blog.

CPM ad networks like AdsDaq, Smowtion & Underdog depend on how much traffic I drive to the blog.

I still publicise how much I earn from those networks because I\’d be cheating if I kept it a secret just because they are not not very good amounts.

Thanks for dropping by. :)

Great work! I’ve just started my own blog and are waiting on affiliate incomes.

Thanks. :)

Affiliate marketing is the only thing I haven\’t tried. It frightens me as some times there is investment needed and you have to put so much in for an uncertain amount of return.

I’m impressed by what you’ve earned through review. You gave me an idea here about where I should focus on. :-)

Dean Saliba (1278 comments) September 11, 2010 at 2:55 pm

Reviews have been the cornerstone of my income online since I started and has been more reliable than anything else, including Adsense.

Wow, you decided to go full time at this. What made you want to do this full time?

Reply

Dean Saliba (1278 comments) September 13, 2010 at 8:20 pm

I became tired of spending the majority of my time applying for offline jobs that would not bring me half as much enjoyment as what I\’m doing now.

So I decided why not do this full time rather than get myself a deadend 9to5 job.

Plus the possibility of earning more money also comes into play. :P

Reply

Deneil Merritt (9 comments) September 13, 2010 at 8:36 pm

lol that is the same reason I went full time at this. Good luck, I hope you can vamp up your earnings. :)

Congratulations on your earnings, you know the link to private ad and reviews is broken and opens a broken URL. I am curious as well about break down of what reviewing companies you use, if you use PayU2Blog are you making all your reviews from that or private reviews purchased by advertisers?

Reply

Dean Saliba (1278 comments) September 19, 2010 at 2:48 pm

Thanks for pointing that out, I should do better checking before I publish my posts in the future. :P

I use a lot of review companies (a list is available here). PayU2Blog and Sponsored Reviews are the top two that earn the most for me.

Making money from reviews is easy. You sign up to as many of the networks as you want to (a list is available here.

I\’ll write a detailed post about it soon. :)

Well back then reviews were the highest income earner for me as well until I decided I’d focus with other things more and will do reviews more conservatively, lols.

USD $319 Very nice! How long have you been doing this? Not everybody can easily get that much especially the new ones. I assume you are new? You make it look so easy! Congrats on last months earnings! :)

Dean Saliba (1278 comments) September 19, 2010 at 2:53 pm

I\’ve been doing it since November 2007. I have stopped and started so many times that I am quite shocked that I earn anything :P

If I could stop losing motivation then I could make a lot more from this.

Where do you live? I could not get by on that amount here in the USA. I have been working towards the same goal for some time now. I still have a ways to go. I will be selling stuff on my site as well.

I really like the reviews idea. I’m going to have to check that out.

I wish you the very best of luck… now get back to work :)

What is that Review where you got most of your income?

I’ve tried an affiliate site before called Click2Sell.Eu and got 42USD.. But unfortunately I did not receive any from their site.. Now I wonder if there are really Trust worthy affiliate sites out there that can be good source of extra income.
