Conducting An Experiment With Audio Adverts

by Dean Saliba on December 13, 2009 · General

Some of you might have noticed that there is an audio file playing while you are looking at this blog. This is an experiment that will be running along the same lines as the one that was conducted earlier this year with regards to placing pop-up advertising on this blog.

The experiment will last for two months (until February 1st 2010) and the money I raise form it will be donated to charity. I’m not sure what charity yet but it will be something to do with psoriasis.

The experiment will also see the advertisements placed on Dean Saliba Dot Com, The Final Cut, and Dean Saliba’s new blog Angry Blogger (That is why the charity will be a psoriasis one) blogs.

As with last time I am very eager to hear your views on this type of advertising. Do you think it is more annoying than pop-up advertising? To ignore the adverts you simply turn your speakers off, it takes more effort to block a pop-up, doesn’t it?

It took a few minutes for me to figure out where the sound was coming from. I use the chrome browser and it blocked the ad as a popup. It will be interesting to see what type of response you will get from this experiment.

The thing I hope my readers will understand is that I'm not trying to upset them with this.

I am trying various ways to monetize the blog, to see if it works and in doing so they can see if it works also.

Plus the money I earn (about $4.00 so far, been up a week) in this two month experiement will go to charity. :)
