Best & Worst Thing To Happen This Week?

by Dean Saliba on July 12, 2009 · General

I was reading a post recently by a blogger called Mia Freedman which asked the question “What’s your BEST & WORST this week?” I thought that this would be a good question to put to my readers but with a bit of a twist to it.

Instead of asking what has been the best and worst thing to happen to you in general, I thought we should stick solely to blogging as that is the main reason 99.9% of us are here at this blog today.

Best: I’ve abandoned using the stat plugins that were all giving me different readings over the past year or so, I am now using only Google Analytics and I’m really happy with the spike this week in traffic.

Worst: I decided to install a new comment system called Intense Debate. I have found it to be a lot of trouble, sometimes more trouble than it is worth, and I’ve had to resist the urge to remove it and go back to the old way.

It looks nicer than the old one I had and it will nestle comment replies nicely. It just doesn’t catch as much Spam as the old system, nor does it import all my comments at the first attempt and sometimes it holds onto comments so I don’t see them.

So what you? What has been the best and worst thing to happen to you with regards to blogging this week?

Best – won a new contract worth a fair bit of money over the next three months!

Worst – Popped my shoulder, and it's making typing very painful!

Double ouch!

Good news about the contract, hope the shoulder heals quickly. :)

What system were you using previously? Have you tried Disqus?

I was using Brian's Threaded Comments with Askimet.

To be honest I'm growing tired of Intense Debate's performance:

- Having to import comments two or three times.
- They let too much spam through that Askimet would catch.
- They lose new comments.
- They class admin comments as spam!
- And if I take more than 1 min to reply to a comment as an admin it logs me out of the comment system and I lose everything I have just written.

I've never heard of Disqus before, I'm starting up a new blog next month I think I'll try that plugin out and se if it is better than ID.

Thanks for the suggestion. :)

No problem! A few bloggers I follow and comment on use it, and it's pretty user friendly from my side.

I’ve commented on a few blogs that use Disqus and I now like Intense Debate better now. :P
