8 Other Ways To Use WordPress

by Dean Saliba on June 19, 2009 · Wordpress

WordPress is so flexible that you can customise it to fit almost anything that you wish to achieve online, it is not limited to just being used as a blogging platform. To prove this fact I have quickly listed eight ways that you can use WordPress if a blog is not what you want to run.

1. Static web site

Why fluff about for hours every day with complicated HTML and PHP code when WordPress will quite happily work as a static web site?

2. Image Gallery

Thanks to plugins such as NextGen Gallery WordPress can transform into a very nice looking image gallery.

3. Link Directory

Link directories are perfect for drawing in traffic. Turning WordPress into a link directory is very easy with plugins such as WP Link Directory.

4. Classifieds Site

If you have ever wanted to try and take on Ebay but do not wish to spend loads of money then WordPress can get you on your way, with a little help from the WP Classifieds WordPress plugin.

5. Review Site

Review sites are very common as people are always searching the internet to discover what some guy in another country thinks about the latest film or breaking news story.

A plugin like Review Box is a great way to achieve this.

6. Message Board

Yes I was taken aback when I found out about this but it is actually feasible to create a message board with the WordPress blogging platform.

With a bit of patience, and the Simple:Press Forum plugin, you could have one up and running in minutes.

7. Membership Site

A membership site is a great way of gaining a regular monthly income, providing you offer something that people will want to pay monthly for.

The Memberwing plugin is probably the best one to do this with. It is very simple and free!

8. Online Store

With a bit of tweaking WordPress can run as an online store so you can sell almost anything.

The ArtPal plugin was designed for sites wishing to sell art but it can be edited to sell almost anything you wish.

At some point over the coming month I shall create eight more articles and go into a lot more detail on each of the ideas that are listed above.

If you have tried using WordPress for something else then why not leave a comment and let us know what it was and how it turned out?

I can just prove that ArtPal plugin can be perfectly edited to selling almost everything. I used to sell vitamins and mp3 players and it worked out fruitfully.
