Commenting Can Help Drive Traffic To Your Blog
When I first started blogging, back in 2007, I discovered that one great way of driving traffic to my tiny blog was to visit other blogs and leave comments on their blog posts. Most blog authors allow you to leave a link to your blog and a lot of people will click and visit your blog.
Now before you all rush off to leave one word comments all over the place there is one general rule that you must always abide by when leaving a comment on another blog.
You must not leave comments like “great post”, “thanks for sharing”, “this is an interesting post”, etc, you must leave a comment that has something to do with the post in question.
Leaving a comment should be seen as more of an exchange, you are giving the blog author a comment in exchange for a link to your blog. If you leave a comment like “great post” then you are more or less telling the world that you are here only to get a free link to your blog.
Most authors will delete this so you are not only wasting their time but your own time as well. When you next leave a comment remember that it should add some value to the post and be relevant.
Why not try it out on this blog.
*Sorry for the quick post, I’m very busy at the moment with personal things and will hopefully return to normal posting soon.

Cool post. When I first started my blog, the vast majority of traffic was from commenting. The great thing is that it has an immediate effect, rather than, for example, having to wait a few months for your site to rank well in search engines.
Also, like you said, you should try your hardest to leave a QUALITY comment rather than just a one liner.

I think a lot of blog owners know some people leave comments to get traffic. I know I am quite happy to let people comment to get traffic as long they they don’t just leave a “nice post” comment.
Thanks for dropping by.
hi,
i totally agree with you,a Quality comment which is related to post or a question is very appreciated but single word comments are really not a good thing some time its all links too,
Very true.
Every comment that comes through this blog has to be approved by me and if I see any links in the comment I’ll normally refuse to publish it and migght even class it as spam.
Most owners allow you to post your url so if people click your name it takes them to your site. No need to place it in the comment part as well.
Thanks for dropping by.
I have used this successfully many times. I think that’s how I got to meet Simon (teenius) and many other bloggers online. We were commenting on same blogs and having lot of discussions.
If blog comments are made in right spirit they can get you ‘guest post invites’
Free links if author or a reader like the point made by you and of course it helps you build a reputation.

Yes, I agree! Commenting on other blogs work to drive traffic. I used to comment on popular blogs the first, and by tracking my traffic, I see it brought me a few unique visitors a day

I still do it sometimes. Not as much as I used to though.

I use the Top Commentator plugin which helps pull in some extra traffic but, it also encourages a lot of “nice post” remarks. Also, some of my blogs are getting some sort of automated comments that are following a pattern that looks like a SPAM program.

Yeah i know about those stuffs. Posting short comments like “thanks”, “NICE POST”. I know they’re spamming.
When i started posting for other blogs i admit i used to do that but it made me realize not to do so. We really have to read what the post is all about and post comments that are essential and related to the post.
Right now, i am enjoying posting for comments, it made me learned more from people.
Its a way of exchanging ideas also.

Generally if a blog comment does not mention something in my post then I count it as spam. A bit extreme I guess.
Thanks for dropping by and I hope you find another job real soon.
I’ve been hearing that blog commenting can add value to my blogs and sites but I have not experienced the effect as yet. However, your article gave me some great pointers about making the post relevant and hopefully this will help in the future.
Even I face this, I always delete spam comments from my blog.
If you do blog commenting for back links at least go for relevant blog and read the blog and reply accordingly.:(
I find you very active Dean, you always make comment to each and every response. good dude.:). I didn’t do this but I’ll try to do.
