I can understand why web sites use pop-up advertising to generate money. I had the pop-up adverts on two blogs for a week and earned about $6.00 and I don’t get a lot of traffic so you can imagine what a popular site could earn with it.

I personally don’t mind the odd pop-up as long as the company that supplies the pop-ups vet who they do business with as you can get viruses and adware passed through.

Pop-up advertising can be annoying indeed, but only in large amounts. Thanks to it you may accidentally come across what you would never have thought of looking for, which doesn’t really sound bad, does it?

Weirdly nobody else mentioned this and to be honest I’ve suffered from pop-ups that have installed dubious programs on my computer many times in the past.

I hate popus as they are annoying to me, simply why I visit the site whicI do not know or do not like. I hate sites having pop-ups as Many times I found bugs in my system that comes from (yeildmanager) pop-ups.

I am currently suffering from the effects of having some adware on my computer and aftr having pop-ups every five minutes for the past two days I’m beginning to understand why so many people hate them so much.

Cheated? That is interesting.

I also use Firefox and it will block, say, 98% of pop-up adverts. Bit of advice for readers.

Two days into the test and the majority of people are saying they are against pop-ups, some even saying pop-ups let the sites down.

errr... I feel it i pop-under advertising, cos I know my firefox is capable to block pop-ups effortlessly. Coming to "how I feel" aspect of the post, I feel irritated, angry and basically cheated when a website uses pop-under mechanism to display the ads. if not for the headline of this post on the homepage I would have closed the website right away. I don’t take what you said personally at all, I was quick to point out that this is a little test to see if people really do hate pop-up adverts and why.

The test is going well and I’m getting some responses responses by comments and email. I might even get up a poll plugin at some point to make the results look fancy.

I am a first time visitor to both blogs today and I can say the pop up ad was annoying. I did not even bother to read it to see what it said. All I remember is that it was a giant green box that I closed as fast I can.

So, I don’t think it is a good idea – I agree it does kind of ruin my opinion of a site. I feel like before I’ve even learned anything about the blog they are pushing ads down my throat and trying to sell my something – Like the blogger cares more about making a quick buck than actually connecting with the blog audience.

That’s just my two cents though in general, don’t take it personally I’m sure you care about your blog readers or you wouldn’t post asking what people thought about it
